In December of this year, Scotland held a national referendum on prohibition which was strongly rejected by voters. Historians point out that simply the fact that the referendum was held demonstrates how powerful and widespread the temperance movement was worldwide at this point in history.

In Ecuador in 2008 just after their referendum said YES to a new constitution.
After a lifetime in business, I chaired the YES campaign in the 1997 referendum creating the Scottish Parliament an experience that led to other referendums.
